WHITE-COLLAR CRIME- Junior Law Program

This course provides an in-depth exploration of white collar crime in the United States, focusing on non-violent offenses typically committed by individuals, businesses, or government officials in commercial contexts. It examines the substantive and procedural law of federal white collar crimes, including fraud, bribery, insider trading, obstruction of justice, money laundering, and conspiracy.

Students will analyze key federal statutes (e.g., 18 U.S.C. §§ 371, 1341, 1343, 1344, 1956, 201, 1001), enforcement mechanisms, and the complex intersection between criminal liability, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance. The course also emphasizes prosecutorial discretion, ethical challenges in defense, sentencing issues, and current enforcement trends by agencies such as the DOJ, SEC, IRS, and CFTC.
