Strategy is the discipline of making the long-term decisions that determine whether an organization merely survives or achieves sustained competitive success. Every organization must decide where to compete, how to compete, which opportunities to pursue, how to allocate limited resources, when to enter or exit markets, and how to build capabilities that competitors cannot easily replicate. Competitive strategy focuses on winning within individual markets, while corporate strategy addresses decisions about the overall direction, scope, growth, and portfolio of the enterprise.
This course provides a practical understanding of both competitive and corporate strategy from the perspective of business leaders. Rather than concentrating on abstract strategic theories, students will learn how executives analyze industries, evaluate competitors, identify growth opportunities, allocate capital, manage diversified businesses, and execute strategic initiatives that create long-term value.
Throughout the course, students will examine strategic analysis, competitive positioning, corporate growth, diversification, mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, international expansion, innovation, risk management, and strategy execution. The emphasis is on developing the practical judgment required to make high-impact strategic decisions in organizations of every size—from entrepreneurial ventures to multinational corporations.
