Real estate is one of the world’s largest asset classes and plays a central role in wealth creation, corporate strategy, institutional investing, and economic development. Financing real estate requires a sophisticated understanding of capital markets, debt and equity structures, property valuation, investment analysis, risk management, development finance, and portfolio strategy. Successful real estate finance professionals evaluate not only the physical characteristics of properties but also the financial, legal, operational, and market factors that determine long-term investment performance.
This course provides a practical, executive-oriented study of advanced real estate finance. Rather than focusing primarily on property sales or brokerage practices, students will examine how investors, developers, lenders, private equity firms, real estate investment trusts (REITs), banks, pension funds, insurance companies, and family offices finance, acquire, develop, manage, and dispose of real estate assets. Students will learn how sophisticated real estate investments are evaluated, structured, financed, monitored, and optimized throughout the investment lifecycle.
Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on practical financial decision-making used in commercial real estate, multifamily housing, industrial properties, office buildings, retail assets, hospitality, healthcare facilities, mixed-use developments, and specialized real estate sectors. Students will develop the analytical skills necessary to evaluate investment opportunities, manage financial risk, structure capital, and maximize long-term real estate value.
